The Club will host its Annual Open Weekend for a festival of canoeing. Desperate Measures have already signed up for the weekend so there will be lots of kit to try out. Food and fun for all. It is a chance for everyone to enjoy a canoeing experience so all visitors welcome.
The Club will have a stand in the Sports & Recreational Activity Hall to promote canoeing and the Club to visitors. It is a 2 day event and those members that are able to support the stand get free entrance to the show. It is our chance to promote the Open Weekend and get new people into the Club. Details to follow.
There will be a Club trip led by a Club River Leader on Sunday 15 Apr 18, open to all club paddlers in any type of boat. |On Sunday 25th March the club will be running a full day of flatwater coaching on Thurlby Lake. There will be kayak and canoe coaching. We will finalise the details of what is available once we know who is attending, what you want and what coaches we have available. This fun day of coaching is designed to benefit all paddlers who want to improve their flatwater paddling skills, from the novice upwards. Those who are already reasonably competent on the flat but wish to progress to moving water will also benefit, as we will stream the groups in order to target the coaching at the correct level and be able to run more advanced sessions for those wanting to move on.
The exact details will be communicated closer to the time, but it will be a full day, likely arriving at 0830 for a 0900 start and finishing at around 1630. There may be the opportunity to achieve the British Canoeing 1 star award over the course of the day.
Please note that in order to achieve most benefit from the coaching, the groups will be allocated at the start of the day, based on ability. This will be determined by a quick assessment at the start of the day (we will try to accommodate preferences where possible). Children are welcome and will be placed into groups of children, unless of higher ability when they may be placed with adults (probably only the case with older more experienced children). Children should be physically big enough to paddle a kayak a reasonable distance.
We will aim to have the tuck shop open with tea, coffee and snacks available, but you will be required to provide your own lunch.
If you wish to book your place please email the Vice Chairman, Neil Busby. Please say whether you prefer to be coached in kayak or canoe, or both. Please note that for those wishing to progress to moving water, to get the most out of the day you should choose just kayak or canoe, not both.
If there are any questions, please contact Neil Busby via email or by Facebook messenger.
